Lessened Restrictions on Ground Water Use for Business in Taichung to Respond to Water Resources Allocation during Scarcity (1)
The Taichung City Water Resources Bureau coordinated with the Taichung City Drought Response Center to respond to the orange alert released for Taichung and to reduce tap water use to pass through the difficult time. It was announced to the public that applications for the increased use of ground water will be accepted between January 11 and June 30, 2021 for owners of groundwater rights for industrial and commercial use. Those with the said need shall apply for permits from their authority agencies which will check on whether or not the sites are open for the use of water resources recycling center first. The Water Resources Bureau will re-check and those with permits can use groundwater without being limited by the requirements on the water right certificate during the allocation period (water use scope and amount of water diverted).
According to the Bureau, the announcement is applicable to business units that use groundwater for commercial and industrial purposes and the allocation time is between January 11 and June 30, 2021. The application process shall start from obtaining permit of increased water amount under the original purpose and scope by industrial and commercial operators from the authority agencies which will check on whether or not water resources can be supplied by recycling centers and reclaimed water can be used. If an application is deemed as disqualified, it will be sent to the Bureau for further verification before using groundwater to reduce the impact of decreased tap water supply brought to industries. The first consideration shall go to the users of reclaimed water resources provided by water resources recycling centers to give priority use to domestic users and to help the public to pass through the water scarcity period. By doing so, water use pressure of Taichung was expected to be lower and a lesser impact of water conservation measures will be caused on the business and industrial development. Additionally, water from recycled resources can be re-used. (2/21*11)* The Water Resources Bureau
