The Water Resources Bureau noted that the Taichung City Sewer Branch Pipeline and Household Pipeline Connection Project 7-10 (covering areas such as Xitun Road and Yingcai Road) received the Excellence Award in the Major Construction category. The project area spans north of Section 2, Taiwan Boulevard, including the vicinity of the National Museum of Natural Science and Taichung Municipal Chungming Senior High School, with an estimated 5,996 households to be connected. Meanwhile, the Taichung City Redevelopment Zone (Taichung Port Designated Zone Town Center) Sewer System Branch Pipeline and Household Pipeline Connection Project was honored with the Special Excellence Award in the Major Construction category, with an estimated 4,913 households to be connected. These achievements fully demonstrate the Water Resources Bureau’s dedication and professionalism in both project quality and occupational safety, earning high recognition.
The Water Resources Bureau further noted that since Mayor Lu Shiow-yen took office, she has instructed a full-scale promotion of the city’s sewer improvement plan. Over the past five years, the number of households connected to the sewer system has reached 126,000, averaging an increase of 20,000 households per year. From the project design stage, a construction risk assessment mechanism has been implemented, coupled with public tenders to select qualified contractors, while strictly enforcing occupational safety regulations. Sewer projects are regarded as “invisible yet conscientious engineering,” often carried out in confined underground spaces where even minor lapses can lead to occupational hazards. Therefore, the city government has placed special emphasis on enhancing ventilation systems, installing gas detectors, and requiring personnel to wear full protective equipment at all times, ensuring comprehensive construction safety.
The Water Resources Bureau added that the city government upholds a “labor-centered” philosophy, respecting the life and safety of workers and committing to the continued implementation of occupational safety and health measures. Its goal is to create a construction environment that is safe, healthy, and free of occupational accidents. The awards received this time not only highlights the professionalism and dedication of the Water Resources Bureau’s engineering team but also reflects the Taichung City Government’s commitment to promoting high-quality public infrastructure and fostering a sustainably safe city, making Taichung a secure and livable city for its residents.
