As climate change and extreme weather become increasingly frequent, access to water resources is becoming more difficult. The Water Resource Bureau of Taichung City Government has continued to promote its “Ai Shui Bu Bu Car” campus activity. It recently visited Dong Ping Primary School in Taiping District and then entered Li Sing Elementary School in East District for the second session. The activity incorporates SDGs sustainable development education goals, and through practical course design and interactive teaching, it helps students understand the value of water resources through games and develop the ability to take action to love and cherish water.
The Water Resources Bureau stated that water resource education should take root from an early age. This activity included the “Guiding Water Home” puzzle game, in which students worked with their hands to bring water from the forest to the home. Along the way, they had to overcome multiple challenges and think through solutions, and amid laughter they came to understand that every drop of water is hard won. Through this educational and entertaining approach, the activity inspires children to cherish every drop of water and practice water saving in their daily lives.
Principal Tai-Chang Nieh of Li Sing Elementary School stated that the school will continue to promote environmental sustainability education and hopes that, through cooperation with the Water Resource Bureau, students will deepen their understanding of water culture and environmental protection through activity based learning. Section Chief Po-Chang Huang of the Water Planning and Disaster Prevention Section of the Water Resource Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that the bureau hopes to bring the concept of “love water and cherish water” into schools and cultivate the next generation to become citizens who value water resources.
The Water Resource Bureau added that the city government is actively promoting water environment education and the concept of sustainable management. From river improvement and reclaimed water use to outreach in communities and schools, it is guided by a people centered philosophy of the common good and shared prosperity. Going forward, it will continue to expand these efforts across schools and communities so that Taichung can become a “City of Water Culture” with both cultural depth and strong awareness of water resources.
