Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced the evaluation results of 2017「Inspection and surveillance of water resources constructions」, the maintenance of water resources constructions in Taichung City won the first award of the country. The officer of Water Resources Bureau, Taichung City Government said, the recognition of the central government was highly appreciated, we’d continue to implement the inspections aggressively and follow up with repairing as required immediately to secure the safety and property of the citizens.
Ministry of Economic Affairs has audited the City/ County Governments for how they implement the maintenance of water resources constructions at yearly basis, including the following items as 「basic information establishment」, 「regular and irregular inspections」, 「sludge cleaning up, waterway drainage and environment maintenance」, 「typhoon or flood responding capabilities and flood risk prevention management」, 「plan and execution of the maintenance management」etc. The territory of Taichung City is wide and large, the drainage system is complicated with 131 waterways which is the 2nd largest one among the six capital cities. Water Resources Bureau has build an optimized and systematic management flow through the routine preparation tasks to implement the maintenance and safety check of the water resources facilities.

According to the current safety check assessment of the water resources constructions, the items needing to be corrected immediately should be completed by the flood season (1st May of every year). The officer of Water Resources Bureau mentioned the total points of the inspection record are more than 2,000 points. In order to have enough time to implement the related improvement measures, the annual inspection will kick off in December of the prior year to ensure they will be completed as planned and with good quality. Also, there would be some irregular inspections due to the special disasters like earthquakes or storms for the implementation of the maintenance and inspection of the water resources constructions as per the concept of「prevention is better than treatment」.

The officer of Water Resources Bureau said, Taichung City has won the national top two ranks for 2 consecutive years under the supervision of Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs. This year, we’ve made the progress and won the champion of the country with the recognition of Ministry of Economic Affairs. It’s because of the cross institute collaborations and the results of the non-stop improvement proposed by the City Government for optimizing the methodology to fit the needs of Taichung.
