The Water Resources Bureau explained that, together with Tunghai University’s public-private coordination and civic participation, “Dongda River Water Environment Improvement Plan” has managed to improve the odorous water quality of Dongda River which seriously affected the water ecology and the surrounding environment in order to reach the goals of water purification, environmental improvement, ecological restoration and promotion of environmental education, enabling the water environment to have sustainable development. As for the Luchuan Canal Water Environment Improvement Project, it not only remediated the river and improved the water quality, but also removed the campus walls in collaboration with National Chung Hsing University. The purposes were to bring citizens closer to the river and to expand the green land in surrounding areas in order to build the communion playground of “Luchuan Water Purification Park”.
The Water Resources Bureau further explained that Liuchuan Pollution Remediation and Environment Improvement Plan had installed a 100% underground sewage water facility at Zhongzheng Water Purification Site to treat daily sewage in order to enhance the quality of Liuchuan’s water environment. With respect to the downstream area between Sanminliu Bridge and Minquanliu Bridge, it further extended the green belts in surrounding areas to the riverside space, having them integrated with Art Museum Parkway and green corridors of surrounding parks to form a landscaped circuit. With water and greenery complementing each other, the waterfront green corridor can detain floods, improve water quality and build a landscape view. It is the City Government’s aspiration to provide citizens with the experience of getting connected with the natural ecology, and build excellent and highly accessible water in the Greater Taichung area.
