Recently, the coastal area experienced short-term heavy rainfall as a result of a passing front. The cumulative 24-hour rain in the coastal area has reached nearly 200 millimeters. The Water Resources Bureau of the Taichung City Government has gradually completed the "emergency project for the diversion of Nanshi Creek and Beishi Creek in the upstream extension section of the foot of the mountain drainage" and the "treatment project for the bottleneck section near the foot of the mountain drainage railway bridge." The total investment for these two projects is approximately NTD 71.87 million. During the heavy rainfall a few days ago, it successfully played the role of flood drainage.

According to the Water Resources Bureau, the Nanshan Intercepting Ditch Project is a central construction plan for the Taichung City Government to improve the flooding of the coastal area to solve the problem of local flooding. The total project cost of the "emergency project for the diversion of Nanshi Creek and Beishi Creek in the upstream extension section of the foot of the mountain drainage" is about NTD 15.61 million. The project includes two new diversion weir bodies (Nanshi Creek and Beishi Creek). After the completion of the project, most of the water flow can divert and discharge into the drainage at the foot of the mountain, sharing the responsibility of reducing flood diversion and drainage of Nanshi Creek and Beishi Creek and completing the task of improving flooding.

The Water Resources Bureau indicated that the "treatment project for the bottleneck section near the foot of the mountain drainage railway bridge" aims at widening and improving the water passage section of the bottleneck section of the foot of the mountain drainage railway bridge. The project's total cost is approximately NTD 56.26 million, including a flood diversion box culvert, a length of about 209 meters, which significantly improves the water passage in the bottleneck section.

The Water Resources Bureau also stated that the flood season has entered, reminding citizens to maintain crisis awareness during the rainy season. The Water Resources Bureau will continue to closely observe the local drainage situation and respond on time to maintain the safety of residents' lives and property.
