To enhance environmental hygiene, the Taichung City Government's Water Resources Bureau is actively promoting sewer line connection initiatives. In addition to improving the quality of urban waterways, they are encouraging citizens to support sewer line connection policies through the beautification of back alleys free of charge. Transforming dim, damp, and congested back alleys into bright, tidy, and spacious spaces not only enhances the city's appearance and landscape but also elevates the quality of life for residents, making back alleys safe and tidy new havens.
The Water Resources Bureau highlighted that in recent years, it has successfully implemented various projects in Taichung City, receiving high praise from residents and neighborhood leaders. Examples include the beautification of the back alleys of Lane 17, Taiyuan 4th Street, North District, the pavement beautification in the Elizabeth Square community, and the beautification of the back alleys of Lane 230, Section 3, Fuxing Road, South District. After pipeline connections and beautification, residents have noticed a reduction in pests and odors, as well as overall cleanliness enhancement, along with brighter and more spacious back alleys. Through collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors, the city government has enabled residents to participate directly in the management and transformation of alleyways, leading to improved surroundings and better living conditions while mitigating odors and pollution in the vicinity.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that community residents have become more aware and actively involved. Residents first remove any additional structures hindering the connection of sewer lines in back alleys to provide the minimum required space for work (with a single-side drainage width of at least 75 cm, or a double-side drainage width of at least 150 cm). Following the removal of any obstacles, contractors then proceed with the connection of house sewer lines. Subsequently, the Water Resources Bureau will collaborate on the beautification of back alleys.
The bureau highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Taichung City Government in actively promoting sewage treatment initiatives. Between 2019 and the end of 2023, they successfully completed the connection of sewer lines for 100,000 households. This endeavor not only enhances river environments and improves residents' living conditions but also encourages more to do the same through the beautification of back alleys where sewage infrastructure projects are undertaken. The bureau expressed gratitude for the cooperation of citizens, underscoring the project's significance as a conscientious and dedicated endeavor that requires everyone's support and effort. A win-win situation can be achieved through mutual efforts between the people and the government, boosting not only the prevalence of pipeline connections in Taichung City but also fostering a more pleasant urban living environment.
