The Water Resources Bureau noted that Dakeng River, one of the upper tributaries of the Dali River Basin running from Xinshe to Beitun, attracts a significant influx of tourists yearly during the Xinshe Sea of Flowers event. To expand its tourism impact, the bureau has secured a total of NT$77 million, including NT$39.2 million from the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program and NT$37.8 million from self-raised funds for the Dakeng River restoration project. The main focus of the project is to enhance approximately 690 meters of existing pedestrian walkways on both sides of the Dakeng River and to extend them by about 1,650 meters with the addition of new pathways. Additionally, a water education park was established in the adjacent higher area.
The Water Resources Bureau outlined its efforts to enhance the pedestrian experience along the pathways by planting trees and shrubs, installing seating areas, and upgrading lighting systems. These enhancements cover both banks of the river, from Fengjia Bridge to Guangxi Suspension Bridge, creating a more welcoming environment for pedestrians. Additionally, at the water education park, there are Baileng Canal No. 2 siphon model and educational panels, which provide insights into the cultural background and ecological diversity of the Dakeng area.
The Water Resources Bureau added that the overall environmental enhancement of both banks of the Dakeng River has restored ecological balance, fostering a closer connection between people and the natural environment. Furthermore, the establishment of new pathways and the educational park will provide additional recreational opportunities in the Dakeng region. Integrating with the Dakeng shopping district will also attract more tourists, revitalizing the local economy and promoting both environmental education and tourism in Dakeng.
