Recently, a weather front moved through Taichung City, causing short periods of intense rainfall in various districts, with some areas receiving over 134 millimeters of accumulated precipitation. Dali District was also hit by downpours. In the past, the intersection of Dafeng Road and Renhua Road in Dali District frequently experienced flooding. To tackle this issue and protect the safety and property of residents, the Water Resources Bureau of the Taichung City Government invested NT$140 million (with 70% funding from the central government) to develop a 0.7-hectare park incorporating smart technology for flood and disaster prevention. This park, which also serves as a recreational area, has a flood detention capacity of about 12,500 cubic meters. It has successfully prevented flooding in this area during heavy rains and typhoons, addressing the long-standing flooding problems in Donghu and Xihu villages of Dali District.
Director Fan Shih-i of the Water Resources Bureau noted that Caohu Disaster Prevention Park is more than just a park; it also functions as a flood detention area and a recreational space. Besides providing flood control, it serves as a place where local residents can relax, exercise, and hold community events. Additionally, the city government has taken over the Taichung City Dali District Dongnan Road Storm Sewer Project, which will be implemented along Dongnan Road (from Lane 207 to Gongyuan Street). This project has received approval from the National Land Management Agency with a total budget of NT$20 million, 70% of which is funded by the central government. The project includes the installation of approximately 260 meters of storm sewers, aimed at alleviating flooding over an area of 9.79 hectares and benefiting around 1,450 residents. Construction is scheduled to commence by the end of June this year.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that as the plum rain season and flood season approach, residents are advised to stay alert during periods of heavy rainfall. The city government will continue to closely monitor drainage conditions across the city and respond promptly to ensure the safety and property of residents. (4/26*16) *Water Resources Bureau
