The Explore Liuchuan: River Reading Walk event ended successfully.
To promote river environmental education, the Water Resources Bureau of the Taichung City Government organized the “Explore Liuchuan: River Reading Walk” today (26th). The event saw over 50 middle and elementary school students and their parents participating. It featured guided tours and AR interactive games, encouraging joint participation by parents and children to strengthen their interaction. Additionally, local elders were invited to share the river’s cultural heritage, creating an intergenerational learning model.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that today’s event included local residents, professional local history advocates, and river guides who shared the historical memories of the river. Participants explored the Liuchuan riverside walkway, using both traditional and modern educational materials, and experienced AR interactive games via the Unceasing Liuchuan Digital Guide Platform to appreciate the beautiful riverbank from different perspectives. The event encouraged joint participation by parents and children to strengthen their interaction. Additionally, local elders were invited to share the river’s cultural heritage, allowing students to learn from and interact with seniors, creating a new model of intergenerational learning.
To enhance students' understanding and lasting impressions of Liuchuan and boost their environmental conservation awareness and abilities, the Bureau also incorporated the environmental and outdoor education themes of the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education into the event worksheet. Students were encouraged to express their thoughts through drawings, which will be showcased in a rotating display on multifunctional smart machines at the Liuchuan and Liuchuan Water Culture and Environmental Education Centers. This effort aims to make students little volunteers for Liuchuan environmental education, firmly rooting these educational values.
The Water Resources Bureau highlighted that the event allowed both young and old to learn about Taichung’s Liuchuan, discovering its unique cultural heritage by walking along the riverside. This experience fosters a caring attitude towards the river environment. Participants can also continue to explore Liuchuan in the future through the Unceasing Liuchuan Digital Guide Platform.
