Improving flooding issues! Taichung City Government’s Zhongxing drainage project nearing completion

Zhongxing Major Drainage Improvement Project - Dawei Road to Guoguang Road - embankment after improvement
Zhongxing Major Drainage Improvement Project - Dawei Road to Guoguang Road - embankment after improvement
In light of extreme weather conditions in recent years, the Taichung City Government has been addressing drainage bottlenecks and flood-prone zones to better manage flooding and strengthen urban flood control. For the Zhongxing Major Drainage (between Dawei Road and Guoguang Road) Embankment Improvement Project, the Water Resources Bureau secured NT$53.65 million from the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs under the central government's Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. This project began on April 1 of last year and will be completed by mid-June this year. It will enhance flood control along the embankment and lower the flood risk for around 2 hectares, safeguarding approximately 5,000 residents.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that the current embankment along Zhongxing Major Drainage (between Dawei Road and Guoguang Road) is made of grouted rubble, and many sections are damaged. The Guangfu Bridge on Dawei Road is also a bottleneck that threatens flood safety during typhoons and heavy rains. To address the community's flooding issues, the project includes raising the embankment, rebuilding the Dawei Road box culvert bridge (Guangfu Bridge), thickening 850 meters of embankment, and planting a 190-meter stretch with diverse vegetation. These measures will improve flooding issues, enhance flood control and drainage, and beautify the Fifteenth Redevelopment Zone, alleviating residents' safety concerns.
The Water Resources Bureau reminds the public to stay aware of potential crises during the flood season.
