The Water Resources Bureau detailed that the Fazi Creek Eco-Green Corridor Development Project covers a 2.5-kilometer stretch and costs around NT$41 million, with NT $32 million subsidized by the central government and NT$9 million contributed by the Bureau itself. The project involves developing a riverside green corridor, creating pathway connections, and adding educational features on ecology. Restoration efforts in the project promote biodiversity in land-based vegetation and reinforce the existing ecosystem, while the shaded greenery and vibrant ecological scenery further attract visitors to enjoy the riverside for recreation and leisure.
The Water Resources Bureau added that alongside spatial improvements, the project prioritized creating connected pathways. Walking and biking trails were set up to link the Fazi Creek Water Culture and Environmental Education Center with Taichung’s landmarks. Native trees suited to the central Taiwan region, such as the chinaberry tree, Chinese pistachio, Persian lilac, and mango, were planted near the levee to form a shaded green corridor. By improving access to the riverside and promoting ecological education, the project aims to raise public awareness of conservation and foster local identity, allowing the public to understand Fazi Creek's ecological characteristics and the importance of environmental protection.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that Mayor Lu Hsiu-Yen highly values the development of water environment infrastructure in Taichung City. Receiving this award reflects the city's dedication to maintaining high standards in significant projects and acknowledges the results of this dedication. They thanked the judges for recognizing the hard work of the construction team. The Bureau plans to keep promoting flood safety while working on waterfront scenery development to foster public engagement with local water bodies, achieving the goal of making Taichung a livable city.
