Taichung’s Water Resources Bureau Hosts Fazi River Basin Learning Camp to Introduce Mammal Diversity in the Basin

Introducing mammals in the basin
The Taichung City Government’s Water Resources Bureau has been working on improving the water environment to preserve biodiversity. For this, the Fazi River Water Culture and Environmental Education Center hosted a learning camp focused on the Fazi River basin. This event offered participants an opportunity to connect with nature while learning about the river’s history, culture, and ecological resources. The Water Resources Bureau noted that yesterday (18th), expert instructors from Tunghai University’s Center for Ecology and Environment led a session introducing the diverse mammal species in the Fazi River basin, providing deeper insights into Taiwan's representative mammals.
According to the Water Resources Bureau, the Fazi River is Taichung's mother river. With abundant ecological resources, it nurtures rich biodiversity and serves as a vital habitat for many plant and animal species. It is also a perfect spot for the public to unwind and enjoy nature. In addition to learning about the mammal diversity in the Fazi River basin, participants took part in practical conservation exercises. These included role-playing as field researchers and wildlife rescuers, where they simulated using tranquilizer darts and blowguns to understand how ecologists and veterinarians conduct research and provide care for mammals.
The Water Resources Bureau highlighted the Fazi River Water Culture and Environmental Education Center's approach to combining environmental education with creative and engaging activities. By using dynamic teaching methods, the center seeks to raise public awareness and interest in the ecology of the Fazi River basin. By providing interactive experiences, it aims to inspire more people to pay attention to environmental issues and join conservation efforts for water resources and ecosystems. This also supports the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.
