Taichung’s Water Resources Bureau achieves excellence again, winning 2 major awards at the 24th Public Construction Golden Quality Award and moving toward a happy, livable city!
The Executive Yuan's Public Construction Commission hosted the 24th Public Construction Golden Quality Award ceremony today (27th) at the CPC Building in Taipei. The Taichung City Government’s Water Resources Bureau received two honors: the Public Construction Quality Excellence Award - Merit Award in the Hydraulic Engineering Category for its “Ruanpizai River Water Environment Improvement Project” and the Public Infrastructure Maintenance and Management Award - Merit Award for its “Taichung City Lyuchuan Canal Phase I Water Purification Facility.” These honors underscore Taichung City's exceptional achievements in water management and ecological preservation, reflecting the city government's dedicated efforts.
Fan Shih-i, Director of the Water Resources Bureau, emphasized that Mayor Lu Shiow-yen prioritizes the enhancement of the city's water environment. Winning the Golden Quality Award reflects the judges' strong recognition of Taichung's hydraulic engineering initiatives and showcases the city government's dedication to creating a livable city. Director Fan thanked the judges for acknowledging the efforts of the teams responsible for design, construction, and maintenance. The bureau will persist in delivering top-tier projects to foster sustainability and move closer to the vision of a livable city.
The Water Resources Bureau shared that Ruanpizai River plays a key role as a vital irrigation source for the Fengyuan area and holds rich cultural significance. After extensive discussions with the Central Branch of the Water Resources Agency, the Irrigation Agency, and the local community, the teams overcame challenges related to water allocation. The successful implementation of ecological embankments, a near-natural winding river channel, sewage interception and purification, and integrated walkways transformed the area. Ruanpizai River has now been revitalized, with clean water flowing once more, bringing new life and becoming a new highlight in the Fengyuan area. The project received the Public Construction Quality Excellence Award - Merit Award this year. The public can take a leisurely stroll along the river and appreciate the harmonious relationship between the city and nature.
On the other hand, the Lyuchuan Canal Phase I Water Purification Facility is a key player in Taichung City's metropolitan water purification efforts. Through its smart energy-efficient maintenance operations and a 24/7 monitoring system, it delivers approximately 16,000 tons of clean water daily to the scenic Lyuchuan Canal. This achievement earned it the Public Infrastructure Maintenance and Management Award - Merit Award. After treatment by the facility’s gravel filtration system, domestic wastewater from the Lyuchuan Canal's banks is discharged into the downstream river, greatly improving water quality. The Lyuchuan Canal waterfront has also become an important site for various events in Taichung. This year, it was again selected as one of the main venues for the Taichung Christmas Carnival, “Sweet Taichung 2024, Christmas Calling,” where locals can enjoy the riverside beauty and the vibrant life of the river.
The Water Resources Bureau added that the Public Construction Golden Quality Award is a significant event in the engineering sector each year. Earning two major awards highlights the city government's expertise and hard work. Looking ahead, the city government will keep advancing excellent projects to enhance citizens' quality of life, striving to build a sustainable and livable city that fulfills the vision of “Wealthy Taichung, Flourishing Water for Prosperity.” (12/27*6)* Water Resources Bureau
