In addition to inspecting the progress of the wastewater treatment system today, Deputy Secretary-General Lin also presided over the unveiling ceremony for the mascots “Gu-Gu” and “Guan-Guan,” which will be placed at the entrance to the Guguan Water Resources Center. The local Tefulan Elementary School Little League Baseball Team performed a baseball-themed dance and presented the city government with a signed baseball and cap, expressing their appreciation for the city government’s continued efforts to develop indigenous areas and provided better services for tribal communities.
Deputy Secretary-General Lin noted that Mayor Lu has emphasized that a livable city must be equipped with well-functioning water resources centers. Despite the diverse and challenging terrain of Guguan, the city government has successfully overcome numerous obstacles, demonstrating strong execution capabilities. He extended special thanks to Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-Chen for his assistance in securing central government subsidies, as well as to local government bodies for allocating funds—amounting to approximately NT$180 million—to advance the Guguan Water Resources Center. He also expressed gratitude to City Council member Wu Chen-Chia for his vigilant oversight and strong support. They have demonstrated the fruitful collaboration between central and local governments.
Deputy Secretary-General Lin further noted that Mayor Lu specifically emphasized the importance of local support for the successful implementation of this project. He thanked the tribal representatives for their consensus and support for the development, which are crucial factors for Guguan’s future growth and sustainable management. He expressed hope that through the establishment of sound infrastructure, Guguan will gradually transform into an area that harmoniously integrates tourism and ecology, attracting even more visitors in the future.
Director Fan Shih-Yi of the Water Resources Bureau noted that the exterior wall of the water resources center’s control room features totems and design elements inspired by local Atayal indigenous culture. This integration not only fosters a closer connection with the local community but also challenges traditional stereotypes associated with construction projects. By promoting the harmonious integration of local culture, tourism, and the natural environment, the initiative aims to support balanced urban-rural development and enhance Heping District’s competitiveness and appeal.
Today’s site visit and unveiling ceremony were attended by Deputy Secretary-General Lin Yu-Hung, City Council member Wu Chen-Chia; Director Fan Shih-Yi of the Water Resources Bureau, Director Lin Shu-Yuan of the Labor Affairs Bureau, Chairperson Lin Ting-Chao of the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, Deputy Director Lee Cheng-Feng of the Secretariat, Chen Chi-Hua, Chief of Staff to Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-Chen, Heping District Council Representatives Hsu Yu-Chieh and Lin Chi-Tsai, Chairman Yorao Obing of the Haluntai Tribal Council, Huilai Guguan Marketing Specialist Lin Yu-Tsung from the Guguan Community Development Association, and Principal Ku Chin-Yi of Tefulan Elementary School.
