The Water Resources Bureau explained that the Dazhi Drainage Water Environment Improvement Comprehensive Project (Phase I), located at the intersection of the East, South, and Dali Districts, centers on ecological restoration, community co-creation, and educational promotion. The project improves riverbank environments through landscaping and greenery, preserves native ecosystems, and strengthens urban flood resilience. The project also incorporates waterside platforms, pedestrian-friendly waterfront paths, and recreational spaces, using a holistic approach of points, lines, and surfaces to integrate the surrounding environment. By highlighting local characteristics, it enhances overall quality of life and encourages public participation in water environment conservation, creating a sustainable and harmonious urban river system.
The Water Resources Bureau further explained that the Zhongxingling Retention Basin New Construction Project is the second phase of the irrigation system expansion in the Xinshe area, commissioned by the Irrigation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and divided into five phases. The project primarily addresses the long-standing irrigation water shortages in Xinshe, Beitun Dakeng, and Shigang Districts. Upon completion, it will provide a stable supply of 0.66 cubic meters per second of irrigation water (approximately 57,000 cubic meters per day), equivalent to about 22.8 Olympic-sized swimming pools, representing a significant contribution to agricultural development.
Meanwhile, the Taichung City Guguan Sewer System Construction Project (including three-year trial operation) involved a joint investment of approximately NT$180 million from central and local governments. The system can treat around 300 tons of domestic sewage daily, effectively improving local living conditions and water environment quality. The facility’s exterior design incorporates Atayal tribal totem motifs, reflecting a spirit of cultural integration, transforming public perception of engineering facilities, and promoting the harmonious development of culture, tourism, and sustainable environment in Heping District.
Finally, the Follow-up Improvement Project for Section 2 of Dazhi Road Rainwater Sewer in Wuci District, Taichung City is a fully government-funded initiative supported by the National Land Management Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, targeting corrosion and damage on the culvert roof as part of its second-phase restoration. The project employs precast panel construction to enhance structural safety and expand the water flow section, improving drainage efficiency. The 640-meter construction segment was completed ahead of schedule in March, minimizing disruption to traffic.
The Water Resources Bureau emphasized that Mayor Lu Shiow-yen places great importance on Taichung’s water infrastructure. The award received this time not only reflects the city government’s commitment to engineering quality but also acknowledges the professional review panel’s recognition of the teams’ efforts. Moving forward, the Water Resources Bureau will continue to promote flood safety, stable water supply, and scenic waterway development, advancing toward the vision of a high-quality water environment that ensures reliable supply, reduces flooding, and fosters public engagement with water.
