Fengyuan Station and Fengyuan Transfer Center serve as a key transportation hub in the Taichung area, accommodating over ten thousand passengers daily. To enhance the quality of the waiting environment, the Taichung City Government’s Water Resources Bureau has officially commenced a sewer connection project on August 25 this year. Originally scheduled for 2030, the project has been advanced by five years through proactive interdepartmental coordination within the city government and is expected to be completed by the end of October this year, demonstrating the city government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development and creating a cleaner urban gateway.
The Water Resources Bureau noted that Fengyuan Station and Fengyuan Transfer Center are not only regional transportation gateways but also represent the city’s image, making environmental quality crucial for passenger experience and the development of surrounding commercial areas. During a review of Taichung’s transportation infrastructure earlier this year, the Legislative Yuan’s Transportation Committee specifically emphasized the importance of upgrading hub environments. The project plan involves constructing a new launching shaft on the south side of the Transfer Center and using a jacking method along Dongren Street to connect to the existing manhole at Lane 147, Section 1, Fengshi Road. Open-cut construction will then link pipelines on the north and south sides of the station and transfer center, directing all sewage to the Fengyuan Water Resources Recovery Center for treatment. This approach will comprehensively improve public sanitation and enhance the surrounding environment.
The Water Resources Bureau further explained that the construction will employ a combination of short-pipe jacking and open-cut methods, effectively minimizing the excavation area and reducing the impact on local businesses and public traffic. Upon completion, the project will not only purify nearby rivers and reduce the breeding of disease-carrying pests but also create a cleaner and more comfortable environment for passengers and the surrounding commercial district. This project aims to establish Fengyuan as a modern, livable, and vibrant gateway to the city’s fresh, mountainous charm.
