In recent years, extreme weather has led to more frequent heavy rainfall in many areas. Flooding has occurred repeatedly on the eastbound lanes along the south side of Section 2, Fengshi Road in Fengyuan District, with the area in front of the parking lots of Fengyuan Bus and Ubus being especially severe. In order to improve the drainage problem, the Taichung City Government allocated approximately NT$37.7 million in its own funds to install new drainage facilities. The project was completed ahead of schedule at the end of March this year, and has already demonstrated its flood relief effectiveness during recent heavy rainfall, with no recurrence of the previous road flooding.
The Water Resources Bureau of Taichung City Government explained that the city has installed new road drainage facilities on the south side of Section 2, Fengshi Road in Fengyuan District, between Fengyuan Boulevard and Lane 252. Construction began on September 15, 2025. The project has a total length of approximately 609.5 meters, a width of 0.5 meters, and a depth ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 meters. Thanks to the active efforts of the construction team, along with the cooperation of utility agencies including Taiwan Power Company and Taiwan Water Corporation in relocating pipelines, the project was completed before this year’s flood season and successfully withstood the recent heavy rainfall, with positive improvement results.
The Water Resources Bureau stated that, in addition to improving local flooding problems, the completed project will also help enhance safety for students commuting to and from Wengzi Elementary School, which is located nearby. During the construction period, inconvenience was caused to commuters and nearby residents, and the Bureau expressed its gratitude for the public’s understanding as well as for the assistance provided by the Taichung Maintenance Section of the Central Region Branch Office of the Highway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications in applying for road permits. This support helped ensure that the project was completed smoothly before the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday and the plum rain season, providing a safer road environment.
